I wasn't sure what to expect, but Remain gave me gifts in what it have me.
Tate Donovan, following the death of his sister Sylvia, has a breakdown and checks in for psychiatric help. On her deathbed, Sylvia reveals to Tate that she is able to see the spirits of those who have passed on in her peripheral vision. Tate discounts this, as the outlandish claim it seems to be.
After completing his stay, Tate moves out to Cape Cod to assist his life long friend Oscar design his dream house. Whilst there, he stays at an empty B&B, taking all the space for himself as it isn't currently being used for it's intended purpose.
Whilst the place is empty, he occasionally see's a woman doing yoga, or jigsaw puzzles in the front room. Confused by this, he talks to the current owners of the B&B and finds out the woman's name is Wren.
What follows is a beautiful tale of love and the supernatural, as it feels more like a gothic horror of wanting and being willing, as opposed to jumpscares and body horror.
I'm very excited to see the film version of this, to see how it plays out.
